Welcome to the final installment of our data storytelling series. If you missed part one or part two, please review them whenever it’s convenient for you. If you’ve been following along, thanks for hanging with us.
As you may already know, mySidewalk is on a mission to democratize data and provide changemakers with tools to build stronger communities. We do this through our full-stack data storytelling platform, which is integrated into everyday data workflows.
To easily adopt data storytelling into your daily workflows, mySidewalk has identified its three core jobs:
mySidewalk is the only full-stack data storytelling platform that encompasses these three jobs, which makes it easy for data users like you to find insights, share data stories and impact change in your community.
Let’s take a closer look at the last job of data storytelling: building and sharing impactful data stories.
Once you’ve explored the best data about places and quickly uncovered insights about your community, the final job of data storytelling is to build and share impactful data stories. Whether you need a supporting indicator for a grant request, receive an inquiry about a revised Community Health Assessment (CHA), or something in between, we’ve got you covered.
Crafting and building compelling data stories is simple with our Seek, Chart and Press tools. Select a single data indicator or a collection of hundreds of insights, and you’re good to go. Build colorful bivariate maps, bar charts, line graphs and other data visualizations to support your data findings. You can compare trends over time and make future predictions.
By simplifying the difficult parts of data — wrangling, collecting, cleaning and analyzing — we’re helping our partners (a.k.a., you!) achieve your goals to create a long-lasting, powerful impact in your community.
After you’ve assembled your data and built a picture of what’s happening in your community, the last step is to share your findings with stakeholders. As public service experts, we recognize that for data to be useful, it must be shared in a compelling, easy-to-understand way.
mySidewalk data is meant to be shared to advocate for community needs, provide direction for resources and ultimately improve the lives of community members. Our Press Boards, Press Generators and data visualizations in Chart are just a few examples of how you can share impactful data stories to positively change the lives of everyone in your community.
We can’t wait to see what insights you find and how you advocate for improvements wherever you live.
